Really want to get this college parent thing down?
eliminate those pesky foggy feelings over
what to do for your new college kid
The average parent of a new college student spends countless hours searching websites and articles getting overwhelmed with information and confused by college lingo.
It's no wonder that happens. There are so many questions to answer...
• Where to get help when you need it
• How you'll know their academic progress
• How often you should call or text
• How to talk to them about drug use and alcohol at college
• What they should (or shouldn't) take with them when moving in
• How to handle medical decisions
• How to help them find advisors
• How to help them with roommate issues
The list goes on, but before you get overwhelmed and waste precious time looking for the right advice, let me show you how to get just what you need all in one spot.
You're starting to prepare, but you also know...
You won't see them every day. You won't know how late they stay out, how much sleep they get, what they eat, who they hang out with. But there are ways to prepare for that.
This summer will go by so fast.
While your kid is getting excited for orientation and meeting new friends, you might be missing them already. Finding a balance between doing enough, and doing too much for them, can be tricky.
day one can be the hardest.
Move-in day can leave you with a feeling of shock, like you missed it even though you were right there. Things move fast on the first day and before you know it, it's over and you're leaving campus.
Things are starting to get real. Let's talk about what you as a parent are going through and acknowledge that this is a big transition for you too.
When I first started working with parents of college students, I quickly learned that they didn't get nearly the amount of care at the college level in comparison to high school. In my first year on staff, I was learning right along with those new parents. Every time I was asked a question I didn't know the answer to, I needed to hunt down answers and get back to them. But I had colleagues right down the hall and a website I was really familiar with.
I couldn't imagine trying to learn all of this in a few short weeks on my own.
In high school, parents are viewed as the all-knowing manager of their kids. They are held responsible by the school for almost everything. Then when kids get to college, the script completely flips around.
College students are now "emerging adults" and they get all of the communication from their college. Some students just aren't prepared for this yet and might not relay information to their parents. They aren't doing it on purpose, they're just assuming their parents know the same information they do, because they are used to the school talking with their parents much more.
This can lead to parents sensing a disconnect from college staff, not knowing who to talk to or if they should talk to the school at all, and frustration of feeling out of the loop.
By listening closely to parents talk about their experiences over the years, it helped me put together an easier and faster way to give them what they were really looking for...
~ how to prepare for the differences between high school and college parenting
~ what to do and who to talk to when they have a problem to solve
~ how to handle the transition within their family
~ where to find community resources
This kind of information should be shared with everyone, but not all colleges help parents in the same way as others.
You can get ahead of it, be prepared, and know what to expect. I'll guide you through the stages of planning for day one on campus, gathering your resources, and helping you prepare for one of the biggest life transitions a family can make.
You can do this and I'm here for you.

You deserve to have better information.
In college, information is shared with students more often than parents. Some info can't legally be shared with you at first, but I can show you how to change that. Let's face it, your kid is going to be overwhelmed with information. Aside from that, they will be busier than ever with a higher course load. Email just won't be their priority and things will get missed. Imagine if they miss the parents weekend email or the tuition deadline. I've seen it happen a lot. Let me help you stay in the loop.
Information sessions and orientation events can be very helpful, but do you know the questions you should be asking? It's true what they say, we don't know what we don't know. This is especially true when we're in the middle of a major life transition, like sending a kid to college. When you attend a school info session, you want to make sure you'll get the answers you really need. I'll share the questions that are in your best interest to ask at college orientation.
You don't always need more information, you need the right information. Websites can be vast and it may be difficult to know where to look. Knowing where to go for information can help you get a quick answer and get on with your day.
You can be

the frustration of being out of the loop
without
There is a lot to do before they leave for school, but having the right tools will mean you don't have to rush through it.
Enjoy Your Time Together
Breeze through move-in and look forward to shopping for their dorm room, setting up the room together, meeting their roommate and other families, and helping them out with things you already know.
Make Memories
Everyone deserves the lasting memories of an exciting start to college. It will be emotional. But being prepared will keep stress from creeping into your last few days together.
Be in the Moment
After everything you've done to get them to this point in their life, it's time to make it easy for yourself (and for them) so they can focus on their first few days and make every moment count.
Have Expert Advice
Get everything in bite-sized pieces all in one place. Leaning on an expert to guide you will make it easier and you’ll know that you’re ready. This is the kind of support you deserve.
You deserve help from someone who cares about what parents are going through.
That's why I decided to create College Parent Pro.

Ease into the job of advising your new college kid to prepare them (and yourself) for college.
College Parent Pro...you've got this.
LEARN WHO DOES WHAT ON CAMPUS
When you need grades, event dates, or to help your kid find the right office on campus, you don’t want to dig through confusing websites to figure it out every time. Use my resource list as a guide instead.
UNDERSTAND COLLEGE LINGO
A college campus has a whole new culture and language. Office names, staff titles, and acronyms can be a bit overwhelming. It can take a little while to get used to and I'll help you define common lingo.
KNOW THE MOST IMPORTANT DATES
Know which days to hold on your calendar for visit days, parents weekend, and other important dates, and learn when to ease up on your communication to help your student stay focused.
AVOID THE FEAR OF HOVERING
One of our biggest hurdles when they are away from us is to manage expectations for communicating. We worry if we're talking too much, or too little. Are they okay? Should I call? When? How long do I talk? You can make this simpler when you create a communication plan.
HOW TO HELP WHEN THINGS GET TOUGH
Sometimes we aren't sure if we should do more for them or what we should do. You may find yourself asking if they can handle this on their own or if they need you to advocate for them. I'll give you some guideposts to help you figure out when it's time to step in and help.
PREPARE FOR CHANGES
New legal rights, changes in the family dynamic, living on their own for the first time...this is new for the both of you. Let's not brush this part aside and pretend every part of college is exciting. We'll get real about the shift from moving out, all the way to their first visit back home.
Get prepared now with College Parent Pro and relax knowing you have it all together.
Your time is precious...especially this last summer before college.

How much time will it take for me to complete the program?
It depends on how fast you want to go. Most people can get through it in a weekend if they breeze right through. But some prefer to take their time and go through it in a couple of weeks. The pace you go is completely up to you.
How long will I have access to this video series after I purchase?
You'll have access to the videos during the summer and throughout their first year in college. As things change each spring before students get ready for their first year in college, we start a new video series so everything stays fresh and up-to-date.
I’m worried I will be left out of the loop and won’t be able to figure out what’s going on. Will this program help me learn how and where to get information?
Yes. Many other college parents have come to me with this problem. We'll talk about how to find the right people on campus and get on their communication lists, where to look for information about parent events, and how communication changes over time.
What if this program isn’t what I expect? Is there a guarantee?
One hundred percent. If you didn't get what you were expecting from this video series, contact us to get your money back at [email protected].
Does this program help me learn who does what on a college campus?
Yes. In this video series, you'll learn about campus lingo, what office names and staff titles mean, and how a college campus is kind of like living in a small town.
I’m a guardian, but not their “parent”, Is this still the right program for me?
Absolutely. Whether you are a parent, guardian, grandparent, or a supportive friend, this video series will help you to better understand the experience of college students and how valuable your support could be for them.
Will this program help me learn where to get information so I can see how they're doing in school?
Yes. I'll share how communication changes in college compared to high school and show you how students and parents can make an agreement with the school to share information with you, like grades and academic plans, so you stay in the loop.
I already miss them and they haven’t even left home yet. Does this program help me prepare?
This is one of the toughest parts of sending a kid to college. How do we lean back enough to let them thrive but still make sure they know we're here for them? In my video, "Prepare for Changes", I'll talk about how to support them, and yourself, during the summer and the weeks after they go.
Is it too early (or late) for me to get started?
Like most things, the earlier you get started the better prepared you will be. I've had parents of high school juniors looking for this advice, and I've also had parents who were about to leave the house to drop off their kids for college. The sweet spot seems to be starting this journey about two months before they go to college in the fall. But you can get started any time and watch the videos as much as you want.
I’ve always been the one they go to for help and I’m worried about adjusting to hanging back. Does this program help me?
Leaning back can be difficult, for sure. It can be anxiety-producing for you, and for them, just to think about being away from each other for a long time. I'll share advice about ways to stay appropriately involved and how you can ask the right questions to see if they need more support.
I’m worried they will get lonely and won’t make friends right away. Does this program help me learn how to guide them?
Sometimes it takes a while for students to find their best friends and the groups they like. There are all kinds of reasons for this. They could be a little shy, may feel like they don't "fit in" with their peers, or they're just really busy. I'll give advice on how you can help your student take steps to get involved and build friendships.
I didn’t go to college myself. Is this program going to help me learn enough about college life to advise my kid about how to find things and get help when they need it?
Most definitely. This program is designed for anyone who is supporting a college student, whether you went to college or not. I was one of the first in my family to go to college and had a hard time finding someone to lean on for advice. Since my parents didn't go to college, I just didn't ask them. But it doesn't have to be that way. You can be a great resource and guide after participating in this program.
Save time and know you're getting just what you need.
College Parent Pro has put it all together for you in one place.
Be confident that you’ll have a great experience sending them off to school.
